From Mother, With Love

This spring I was contacted by Emily Froud, a lovely fashion promotion student from UCA Epsom, who had stumbled upon my series the Memory of My Wardrobe in Address Magazine and asked me whether she could interview me and feature my work in her final project from uni, a book and blog called From Mother, With Love, about the relationships and attachments one has with clothes.

After meeting Emily a couple of months ago, I realized that we share the same views on fashion and clothing, so I agreed to be part of her project. I submitted some of my own images from The Memory of My Wardrobe to the project, as well as a photograph of my grandmother that has more or less been the inspiration and catalyst behind my own project

Emily’s book is now ready and looks beautiful. You can see some of the pages with my images below, for more, check out the website for From Mother, With Love. I’m very flattered to be part of the project and want to wish Emily and her book the best of luck!

As I’m on the subject of mothers anyway and it’s Mother’s Day in Finland, I want to wish my mother, both grandmothers, my sister (celebrating her first mother’s day ever!) and all the other lovely moms I know a happy mother’s day! Love you!

FutureFrock Portfolio

Apparently, my work has been up on the online ethical fashion magazine FutureFrock for a while, I just didn’t know about it… I submitted my images ages ago and last time I checked they weren’t there, so I gave up hope and forgot about it, but ta-dah! tonight I found them. Out of Fashion is also mentioned!

The work is a part of my series The Memory of My Wardrobe, which was my final project from uni. Take a look at it here, while waiting for my webpage to be updated (I’m working on it, I really am, I’m just really bad at editing and desiscion making!).

Almost Famous

I just had my 15 minutes of fame – one of my images that is in Address Magazine was featured on Cathy Horyn’s fashion blog for New York Times. This is great, super, fantastic, except for that one little thing: they forgot to credit me. Damn. Well, I guess worse things could happen, but it’s annoying still.

Address Publications

I’ve got some great news, the first issue of Address, a journal for fashion writing and criticism is out now – and it’s got my pictures in it!

The magazine looks so good and has some very interesting articles, so I think you should check it out ASAP.

This is not the only good news I have today: Out of Fashion, the magazine I did with Eeva Rinne and Siru Kivistö, can now be found in Akateeminen Kirjakauppa – the biggest bookstore in Finland. I’m so proud of us!

Ouf of Fashion, Again

Here’s the invitation to our exhibition in Helsinki. As I can’t assume you all know Swedish I feel it’s my duty to translate. The invitation welcomes you to our private view at the gallery Myymälä2 on Uudenmaankatu 23 in Helsinki. The party starts at 6 pm and is on until 10 pm. If you can’t make it, the show is open until 25th August (opening times: Wed-Sat 12-18, Sun 12-17, Mon-Tue closed). See you there!

Out of Fashion

As part of my final project at uni I did a fashion magazine, Out of Fashion, together with two lovely girls, Eeva Rinne and Siru Kivistö. The magazine can now be bought from Do You Read Me?! in Berlin and the date for our exhibition in Helsinki is also getting closer. The show opens at the gallery Myymälä2 on 17th August and is on until the 25th. See you there! After the show has opened the magazine will be for sale in Finland as well.

Here’s a little teaser of my pages in the magazine, but to see and read the rest of the it you’ll have to get your hands on a copy. And do come to the exhibition as well – there will be pictures on the walls that are not in the magazine.

Batch44

Finally, after a lot of trouble, our publication Batch44 was launched last night. The book showcases the final work of 44 of the students from my year. I actually think it looks quite cool. Here’s the three spreads I have in the book (sorry about the poor picture quality, but I’m no product photographer):

P.S. If your in Helsinki tomorrow, go to the Hel Looks Weekend and hear Siru talk about Out of Fashion, the other publication I’m involved with (I know, I still need to post pictures of that…).

Welcome

As I’ve mentioned before I’m involved in two different publications as a part of my final project and I’ve promised to get back and write about them later, so here comes some info about the other one.

One of the projects I’m involved with is called Out of Fashion. It’s a fashion publication in collaboration with photographers Eeva Rinne and Siru Kivistö and writers Pihla Hintikka, Anna Lehto, Johannes Reponen, Suvi Saloniemi and Marttiina Utriainen. We all believe that fashion is something more than a superficial act of consuming and are working around different aspects of fashion and raising questions around identity, memory, the portrayal of women and fashion’s impact on our lives and the envionment. The magazine is designed by Artur Närvänen.

The magazine will be launched at Green Lens Studios in London on 31 May and then later in August in Finland, where we’ll also have an exhibition at Myymälä2. You’re all very welcome to all of these events!

Here’s the invitation for the London event – hope to see you there!
